Test the beta version of Firefox
As with most Firefox betas, the most notable improvement is speed. Firefox 6 is definitely faster not only when launching but also when loading web pages although there seems to be a bit of a pause before the page suddenly springs-up. In terms of design and appearance, however, Firefox 6 doesn’t change that much from the previous version.
The interface is pretty much the same as Firefox 5, with a minimalist toolbar, although a new "Feedback" button has been added to the top right corner where you can easily submit thoughts on what you like and don't like about Firefox 6.
Other notable additions are an experimental Data Management Window, and an add-ons manager with plug-ins check. The Data Management window allows you to specify the level of access control certain sites over the browser - such as cookie placement.
There's also an enhanced add-ons manager with a plugin checker which verifies the compatibility of installed plug-ins directly from the add-ons Manager. Finally, there's a Panorama enhancement for Panorama users which means that Firefox launches much quicker.
The major downside for most users is that very few plug-ins or add-ons work with Firefox 6 so if you have a lot installed, prepare to be disappointed.
Firefox 6 Beta isn't a revolution in the development of Firefox but it certainly seems like a quicker and smoother browsing experience in general.
- Enhanced speed
- Launches quicker
- New Data Management tool
- Enhanced add-ons manager
- More tools for web developers
- No significant changes in design
- Won't work with most plugins
